3M Novec 1700 Electronic Grade Coating (EGC-1700)
The 3M Novec 1700 is a clear, ultra-thin fluoropolymer conformal coating engineered for the protection of sensitive electronic assemblies. Applied as a dilute solution in a hydrofluoroether (HFE) carrier solvent, it deposits a transparent, hydrophobic film that shields PCBs and components from moisture, corrosion, and contamination — without masking, rework, or lengthy cure cycles.
Key Features
- Clear Fluoropolymer Film: Deposits an ultra-thin, optically transparent protective layer
- Hydrophobic & Oleophobic: Repels water, oils, and flux residues to prevent corrosion and leakage currents
- Electronic Grade (EGC): Formulated for direct use on populated PCBs and sensitive components
- Fast Drying: HFE carrier solvent evaporates rapidly at room temperature — no oven cure required
- Non-Flammable Carrier: Novec HFE solvent is non-flammable, improving workplace safety
- No Masking Required: Coating is easily removed from connectors and contacts with standard solvents
- Low Global Warming Potential: Environmentally preferable alternative to traditional fluoropolymer coatings
Typical Applications
- PCB conformal coating for moisture and corrosion protection
- Consumer and industrial electronics assemblies
- Automotive electronics and sensors
- Aerospace and defense avionics
- LED modules and lighting assemblies
- Medical device electronics
