The 3M Scotch-Weld DP420NS is a non-sagging, two-part epoxy structural adhesive designed for high-strength bonding of metals, composites, and a broad range of industrial substrates. Its non-sag formulation makes it ideal for vertical and overhead applications where adhesive flow must be controlled. Once cured, it delivers a tough, durable bond with excellent resistance to impact, vibration, and harsh environments.

Key Features

  • Black two-part epoxy structural adhesive
  • Toughened formula with good impact and fatigue resistance
  • Non-sag formula, suitable for vertical surfaces, complex areas and localized dispensing
  • High shear strength and high peel strength for long-term structural bonding
  • Maintains bonding strength under high and low temperature conditions
  • Can withstand certain paint bake processes; 3M information indicates resistance to 400°F for 60 minutes
  • Suitable for various substrates, including metal, ceramic, wood, glass, many composites and plastics
  • Approximately 20-minute open time for positioning, adjustment and assembly
  • Meets UL 94 HB requirements
  • 50ML Duo-Pak cartridge packaging, suitable for small-batch production, repair, laboratory use and production line dispensing
  • Suitable for bonding, potting, panel bonding and structural bonding applications

Typical Applications

3M DP420NS Black 50ML is suitable for structural bonding applications requiring high strength, impact resistance and environmental durability.

Typical applications include:

  • Small joint assembly
  • Heavy-duty mounting assembly
  • Metalworking and metal structural bonding
  • Carbon fiber composite bonding
  • Metal-to-composite bonding
  • Metal-to-plastic bonding
  • Industrial panel bonding
  • Structural fixing and reinforcement
  • Potting, sealing and encapsulating applications
  • Partial replacement of screws, rivets, spot welding and other mechanical fastening methods

Handling and Use Recommendations

  • Avoid heavy pressure, dropping or cartridge deformation during handling.
  • Before application, make sure the bonding surface is clean, dry and free from oil, dust, oxide layers, release agents and other contaminants.
  • For high-strength structural bonding, surface contaminants should be completely removed before bonding.
  • When using Duo-Pak cartridges, insert the cartridge into the EPX applicator, dispense a small amount of adhesive first to confirm that both A and B components flow evenly, then install the mixing nozzle for dispensing.
  • The A and B components must be fully mixed at the specified ratio to achieve optimal performance.
  • After dispensing, assemble the parts promptly and keep them fixed during curing to prevent movement.
  • When using solvents for surface cleaning, keep away from ignition sources and follow the solvent supplier’s safety instructions.
