3M Scotch-Weld DP490 Black 50ML Epoxy Structural Adhesive for Metal and Composite Bonding
Product Overview
3M Scotch-Weld DP490 Black 50ML is a black, two-component epoxy structural adhesive designed for applications requiring high toughness, high strength, heat resistance and environmental resistance. According to 3M’s latest technical data sheet revised in February 2026, DP490 is designed for bonding applications where toughness and strength are required, and it features a 90-minute work life, non-sag performance and a 2:1 mix ratio.
This product is supplied in a 50 mL Duo-Pak cartridge and is suitable for use with the 3M EPX applicator system, which helps provide accurate metering, mixing and dispensing. 3M’s product page lists DP490 Black 50 mL as a two-part structural adhesive and highlights its 90-minute work life, high strength and non-sag application performance.
DP490 is especially suitable for demanding industrial bonding applications such as transportation, rail, automotive, composite assembly, metal bonding, plastic bonding and structural component bonding. 3M notes that DP490 provides excellent shear and peel strength, good impact durability, and heat and environmental resistance up to 248°F / 120°C.

Storage and Handling
Storage Conditions
Store 3M Scotch-Weld DP490 Black 50ML in its original, unopened packaging under normal storage conditions of 16°C to 27°C / 60°F to 80°F, away from direct sunlight. According to 3M’s technical data sheet, cartridge products can be stored for up to 39 months from the date of production when kept in the original packaging under the recommended conditions.
Handling Recommendations
Before bonding, all surfaces should be clean and free from paint, oxide films, oil, dust, mold release agents and other contaminants to achieve high-strength structural bonding. 3M recommends wearing gloves to minimize skin contact and not using solvents to clean hands.
For Duo-Pak cartridges, insert the cartridge into the 3M EPX applicator, remove the cap, dispense a small amount of adhesive to confirm both components flow evenly, then attach the mixing nozzle and begin dispensing. For maximum bond strength, apply the adhesive evenly to both surfaces, join the parts and keep them from moving during cure.
