Product Overview

3M DP8010 Blue 45ml, officially named 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Plastic Adhesive DP8010 Blue, is a blue/blue-green, two-part, acrylic-based structural plastic adhesive. It is specially designed to bond many low surface energy plastics, including many grades of polypropylene, polyethylene and TPO, often without special surface preparation.

DP8010 Blue has a 10:1 mix ratio and is suitable for use with 3M EPX / Duo-Pak dispensing systems for accurate metering, mixing and dispensing. According to 3M technical data, the adhesive has approximately 8 minutes of work life, 10 minutes of open time, reaches set/handling strength in about 60 minutes, and fully cures in approximately 24 hours.

This adhesive can replace screws, rivets, plastic welding, and two-step processes involving chemical etchants, priming or surface treatments in many applications. It is suitable for plastic component assembly, automotive plastic parts, electronic housings, industrial plastic assemblies and dissimilar material bonding.

Key Features

  • Blue/blue-green two-part acrylic structural plastic adhesive
  • 10:1 mix ratio for controlled metering, mixing and dispensing
  • Designed to structurally bond many low surface energy plastics
  • Suitable for PP, PE and TPO bonding
  • Bonds many polyolefin substrates without special surface preparation
  • Can bond dissimilar substrates, such as plastic to metal or plastic to wood
  • Room-temperature curing for assembly and repair use
  • Excellent water and humidity resistance
  • Very good chemical resistance
  • Solvent-free adhesive system
  • Can replace screws, rivets, plastic welding and some conventional primer-based processes
  • 45ml Duo-Pak cartridge format, suitable for small-batch assembly, repair and sample testing

Typical Applications

3M DP8010 Blue 45ml is suitable for industrial applications requiring bonding of low surface energy plastics, difficult-to-bond plastics or dissimilar materials.

Typical applications include:

  • Polypropylene / PP plastic bonding
  • Polyethylene / PE plastic bonding
  • TPO material bonding
  • TPE / thermoplastic elastomer bonding
  • Plastic-to-metal bonding
  • Plastic-to-wood bonding
  • Automotive plastic component assembly
  • Electronic and electrical plastic housing bonding
  • Industrial plastic component fixing
  • Bonding plastic brackets, panels, housings and covers
  • Structural bonding that may replace screws, rivets or plastic welding
  • Plastic bonding applications that reduce the need for priming, flame treatment, plasma treatment or other surface preparation steps

Storage Recommendations

  • Keep the product in its original sealed packaging. Do not open the cartridge before use.
  • Refrigerated storage is recommended, but the product must not be frozen.
  • Allow the cartridge to return to room temperature before dispensing.
  • Avoid direct sunlight, high temperature, high humidity and heat sources.
  • Manage inventory according to the first-in, first-out principle.
  • Before use, check the cartridge, label, expiration date and packaging condition to ensure there is no leakage, damage or expiration.

Handling and Use Recommendations

  • Avoid heavy pressure, dropping or cartridge deformation during handling.
  • To obtain high-strength structural bonds, remove paint, oxide films, oils, dust, mold release agents and other surface contaminants before bonding.
  • When using Duo-Pak cartridges, insert the cartridge into an EPX applicator, dispense a small amount first to confirm that both components flow evenly, then attach the mixing nozzle for dispensing.
  • After dispensing, join the surfaces within the open time and keep parts fixed during curing to prevent movement.
  • Allow the adhesive to cure at 16°C / 60°F or above; applying heat up to 66°C / 150°F can increase cure speed.
  • Excess uncured adhesive can be cleaned with ketone-type solvents. When using solvents, keep away from ignition sources and follow the solvent manufacturer’s safety instructions.
